A girl cries at Santa Cruz de La Sierra Health Center while she is waiting to be vaccinated against rabies - In Bolivia, Santa Cruz de la Sierra alone has registered more than 500 cases of the disease since the beginning of the year. One of the most affected regions in Bolivia, four people have died so far this year, the same number for all of last year. The Bolivian government launched a national campaign of vaccination. From January to March, 2,421 people received the medication. Last year, 5,941 did. Rabies has no cure and the only way to reduce cases is prevention, through vaccination of people and dogs, the main cause of the disease.
